**Post dates have been changed so that all of my work from the different products I have made (short film, poster and double-page spread) are grouped together and therefore not all dates reflect when work was originally posted.**

Question 1a: Skills Development

  • 30 minutes - about six paragraphs
  • Skills development from foundation portfolio to advanced portfolio
  • Must communicate the brief(s) to the examiner
  • What, how, why, what effect?
The question is based upon the five areas of
  • Digital technology
  • Creativity
  • Research and Planning
  • Post-production
  • Using conventions for real media texts

Digital Technology

How has digital technology helped you to capture your ideas for media production?
  • In both my music magazine and my short film, I used digital technology to do my research. For example, I used Google Images to look up existing music magazines to identify what features would make my product conventional. Furthermore in my Advanced Portfolio I used YouTube and Vimeo to look at short films to analyse the conventions of them.
What benefits do digital technologies offer over analogue? Are there any disadvantages?
  • Digital technologies are a lot more accessible and allow a lot more flexibility in pre-production, production and post-production.
How did digital technology influence your work in post-production - for example in the creative of video effects, or the manipulation of images.

How have your skills with digital technology developed, and how has this influenced your productions?
  • I have developed my photoshop skills and learnt how to use Adobe Premier Pro. I also used YouTube to look for tutorials on how to use different tools in Photoshop and Premier Pro to make my work a higher standard.
What role might digital technology play in the distribution of your work?
  • I will be distributing my short film online so that it reaches the target audience.
